AEC Hackathon 1.2

AEC Hackathon 1.2 Seattle

It's a wrap, the AEC Hackathon 1.2 just concluded! Held in Seattle, Washington at University of Washington's Pacific Northwest Center for Construction Research and Education, it was a fun weekend of hacking to improve the built environment with plenty of high-tech and innovative solutions in the house.

As always, I was amazed at what the AEC Hackers made over the course of the weekend. In addition to the projects created, some of my more memorable highlights from the event include:

1. Drones for architecture and climbing a tree to get the drone for team Revit My Drone.


2. An awesome smart table touch screen device thanks to SmartUse.


3. Plenty of Virtual Reality for AEC represented including a full immersive VR setup thanks to the team at VRcade.



4. Multiple Web3D applications that used WebGL and more.

5. FTW (For The Win): seeing alumni that have started companies from projects started at past AEC Hackathons.

Artificial Intelligence & Robots

Artificial intelligence (AI) is the intelligence of machines and the branch of computer science that aims to create it. Released during the Game Developers Conference, the now viral “Kara” concept video made by the Paris-based Quantic Dream, developers of the Heavy Rain game, is a look at the future of gaming, using full-body motion capture and a new computer-graphics engine. It is running in real time on Sony’s PlayStation 3 platform. The video is thought provoking as a robot comes to life and is quickly scared by the idea of how precious that can be. What I find interesting is that this type of artificial intelligence is not too far in the future thanks to friends like David Hanson of Hanson Robotics . I got the chance to hang out with David for several days during a trip last year to New Zealand and I was amazed by his work and the state of the A.I. industry. Metaverse One - Upgrading to Social Media

Today marks the 14th year of when I started this blog to cover the technologies of our ever evolving Metaverse.  A lot has happened since then, both in tech and the personal life.
